Goodlatte Should Hold 6th District Committee Responsible

The 6th District GOP Committee Treasurer Dexter Gaines has broken the state party rules and VA-6 Congressman Bob Goodlatte needs to hold him accountable.

Article 7 Section C of the State Party Plan states that:

“A member of an Official Committee is held to a higher standard of support for nominees of the Republican Party than an individual who merely participates in a mass meeting, party canvass, convention or primary. Therefore, a member of an Official Committee is deemed to have resigned his Committee position if he (a) makes a reportable contribution to and/or (b) allows his name to be publicly used by and/or (c) makes a written or other public statement in support of a candidate in opposition to a Republican nominee in a Virginia General or Special Election. Such member may be re-instated by a majority vote of the other members of the Committee.”

The text of Dexter’s email is as follows:

Friends,

Below is a good article on the Clerk of Court for Campbell County. If you live in Campbell I would ask that you support Shelia Bosiger. I have met her and feel she is the best person for the job. As you know I am a Republican. Not ashamed of it but this is one time I can’t support the nominee.

Please forward to everyone you know in Campbell and encourage them to vote for Shelia.

Thanks,

Dexter

The linked article was to a slanderous opinion piece written in a no account small time local rag.

The bottom line is that the party rules were clearly broken and if the GOP wishes to retain any sort of credibility, they should follow their own rules and remove him. Bob Goodlatte being the Congressman, should lead the way. How can you hope to have any credibility in making the left adhere to the rule of law if you aren’t even willing to follow the rule of your own party’s law.
The RVp already has serious credibility issues  in claiming to be the party of “fiscal responsibility” and then duping the State Central Committee into voting for a US Senate primary which will saddle the tax payers with a $3.2M debt merely to determine the party’s candidate when the fiscally responsible thing would’ve been to hold a convention like they did in 2009 to determine the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General candidates. Total cost to the taxpayers: $0.
